  • March Clinic: Strength Training For Triathletes

    Join us this Saturday for our March off season clinic. Coach Al Schlosser with be giving a fantastic presentation on Strength Training for Triathletes. Make sure to come prepared for activity as we learn some new ways to build strength and a six pack!

  • Vulcan Tri Tuesday Night Ride

    Daylight Savings is almost here! And that means that the Tuesday night group rides are too. Make sure to mark your calendar for NEXT Tuesday! We will meet in the BB&T Bank building parking lot (located just below the Mountain Brook YMCA). Please arrive a few minutes early as we will have announcements and kick off the season right.

    Wheels Roll promptly at 5:30 p.m. **For the first ride we would really love to make it more social. We will always have the option to ride hard, but if you are up for a fun group ride we've got you covered!**

    - Make sure to bring a tail-light.

    And maybe the most important part...join us afterward for food & drinks! We will have the upstairs at Jackson's Bar (SoHo in Homewood) reserved for the Tri Club starting at 7 p.m.

  • Adult Swim Clinic with Sherry Colgin

    Back by Popular Demand!

    Over the past several months Sherry Colgin (awesome swim coach!) has been asked by several people to host an Adult Swim Clinic. As some of you may know she has held these clinics in the past with huge success. Informative, fun and hands on training will get you from the lap pool to open water.

    Technique Development in Freestyle and Backstroke: This clinic is open to all levels of swimming ability but especially for beginners and swimmers unaccustomed to swimming for fitness. Taught by Sherry Colgin, former Head Coach of the Paralympic Swim Team, this month long clinic will focus on Improving Technique, Individual Drill Design, and Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation. After four group sessions each individual should plan on coming away with improved confidence in the water as well as the tools to further develop individual proficiency in Freestyle and Backstroke and a healthy attitude towards swimming for fitness!

    March 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th
    6-8pm with 30min dry land, 80min pool session, and 10min debriefing
    YMCA Members $160, Non Member $180

  • 2017 Volunteer Positions Available!

    We need your help! 

    We are looking for volunteers to bring some new and fresh ideas into the club.

    Who are we looking for? Any club member (regardless of experience in triathlon) who has an interest in the sport and/or has ideas on what they would like to see for the club.

    What would you do? Meet with the Board once a month to help plan club events (socials, training, clinics), propose ideas and discuss various initiatives.

  • VT Party: Kickoff Extravaganza!

    We're coming up to the end of another year...and that means another party!

    AND WE HAVE MORE BIG NEWS! 

    This year we are hosting a 5k fun run prior to the start of our party. So come out early for to burn a few extra calories with friends! 

     

    Do you like to win free stuff? Maybe eat some awesome pizza? Dance? Then make plans to attend our Kickoff Extravaganza! This January we'll celebrate the past years accomplishments and kick off the new season in a big way.

    5:30 P.M. - 5k Fun Run. Meet outside Avondale Brewing Co. for this informal group run. (Avondale has spacious bathrooms for changing so bring an extra set of clothes if needed)

  • October Social: Brick Workout

     

    The October Social is gearing up to be a blast! Group workout plus Food = the perfect late season or base season activity.

     

    And if you're lacking motivation now that race season is over or almost over then come out and socialize!

    On October 15 join Coaches Craig Cecil and Sarah Portella for a Vulcan Tri Brick Workout like none other! We'll have contests to win prizes...like who has the fastest transitions, and a post workout social at the Brookwood O'Henry's.

    Here's what you need to know:

    We will meet in the parking lot of the Homewood soccer fields (at the South Lakeshore entrance) at 7 a.m. Please bring your bike trainer and running shoes. We will have a workout designed for the group and a space set up for everyone.

    September is right around the corner and with it comes the ride for MS. If you need to get in a trip to the beach consider joining the Vulcan Tri team for either the 150 mile option or the 450 mile option.

  • Active Lady's Defense

    One More Class...Don't Miss This Opportunity!!

     

    Tri One Cryotherapy, Fagan Sports Medicine, and D1 Sports will be hosting a 2 part Lady's Self Defense class. 

    Vulcan Tri ladies are invited to attend these FREE seminars on Monday's in February.  The lead instructor will be Dr. David C. Todd, who spend 31 years in competitive cycling. 

    "Not be taken!!!" is a practice and safe self defense class for active ladies who are often out walking, running, cycling, swimming either along or with just one other person. in Mod 1 and Mod 2 held the next week one will learn how to desolve possible abduction and remain at the scene. Although the class is very serious the class can be fun involving lecture and practical application of simple techniques.

    About the sessions: The first one is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 20.

    Classes are super fun and interactive between participants so be prepared to work and laugh. Since this is not a fun subject we can make the class be.

  • VT Social + Kona Send Off

    It's time for another celebration! 

    Vulcan Tri is pretty excited and extremely proud of two of its members: Travis Self and Lori Williamson have qualified for Kona! And of course we would like to send them off in style.

    With Sept. 13 being the last official group ride of the season, we thought a little post-ride party might be just the ticket. 

    So come hang out after the ride and wish these two Good Luck! Oh, and of course enjoy some well deserved pizza!
